Ready to spend a semester abroad? In any country of the world?

We are delighted to inform that Ave Maria University-Latin American Campus has been accepted as a member of CIEE: Council on International Educational Exchange. At the CIEE Board of Directors meeting on April 28, Ave Maria University- LAC was approved as a new CIEE member. The Board was impressed with our institution's commitment to international education and the maintenance of high standards in its international activities. As a new CIEE member, Ave Maria University- LAC joins a network of more than 200 institutions from 10 countries, all committed to excellence in international educational exchange. We encourage you to take advantage of the benefits of CIEE membership:

• Eligibility for CIEE Scholarships. There are two scholarships which are designated for students of CIEE and Academic Consortium member schools only:
  • The John E. Bowman Travel Grant provides assistance to students participating in CIEE programs in non-traditional locations and is intended to help defray the cost of travel.
  • The CIEE-International Study Programs Scholarship is intended for undergraduate students who demonstrate both academic excellence and financial need.

• Students of member schools may also apply for the following scholarships available to all participating students:
  • Robert B. Bailey Scholarship provides assistance to undergraduates that have been traditionally underrepresented in study abroad, especially ethnic minorities and students with disabilities.
  • Jennifer Ritzmann Scholarship intended for students studying Tropical Ecology at the CIEE Study Center in Monteverde, Costa Rica.
  • U.S. Department of Education Fulbright-Hays Project Abroad Scholarship for students taking part in Chinese language study programs.
    

• Event Discounts. As a CIEE member, Ave Maria University- LAC faculty and staff receive discounts on CIEE events:
  • All administrators and faculty from Ave Maria University- LAC may register for the CIEE Annual Conference on International Educational Exchange at the reduced member rate. This year's conference, "In Pursuit of Excellence; Prioritizing Quality as Study Abroad Evolves" will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania November 13, 2010.
  • Ave Maria University- LAC faculty and administers are also eligible to participate on CIEE International Faculty Development Seminars at the reduced member fee.
  • All administrators and faculty from Ave Maria University- LAC may register for CIEE Site Visits at the reduced member rate.
    

• Publicity. CIEE regularly publishes the list of CIEE member institutions in program and promotional materials related to CIEE Study Center programs. They will also include a link to the Ave Maria University- LAC website on their website, http://www.ciee.org/.

• Publications. As a CIEE member, Ave Maria University- LAC will receive complimentary copies of all CIEE publications, and a subscription to the Journal of Studies in International Education.

• CIEE Staff Visits. CIEE staff members visit institutions whenever possible in order to assist in the internationalization of campuses. As important as direct benefits like this is their support of the CIEE mission, "to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world." While small, our dues help support their advocacy efforts in international educational exchange, their scholarship programs, and their commitment to mission. For over 60 years, CIEE has been a leader in international educational exchange. As a Member of CIEE, we are a full participant in their future and the future of this important endeavor. The support of Ave Maria University- LAC and our counterparts from other institutions around the world is essential to their long term success.
